January is the place of our dreams. New year, fresh starts. Turning of a new page. We’ve talked about this before. Our ambition is high in January.

Now, let’s look ahead to January 2018. We’re back in the most ambitious part of the year! What was your commitment in 2017? Did you ever start that healthy eating? Did you maintain those trips to the gym?

One of the most powerful statements (that gets attributed to tons of people) is this:

A year from now, you’ll wish you started today.

This quote used to vex me. Each diet I tried, every workout I started, and every promise I made to myself was left broken and battered by the end of the year. I would then think of this quote and be utterly devastated that I failed again. I could write a book titled The Ghosts of Resolutions Past!

Now, instead of this quote making me anxious I use it to maintain my focus. I visualize how keeping this commitment now will enhance my future. Some things will feel good for a minute then wreak havoc on you later. Suspending that temporary “joy” for a long term victory is the name of the game now.

  • How do you maintain your focus?
  • Is there a quote that drives you?
  • Do you make resolutions?
  •  Are you one of the few that keep them?

  1. How do you maintain your focus? I meditate every day and I know this helps with everything in my life.
Is there a quote that drives you? “May our heart’s garden of awakening bloom with hundreds of flowers.” –Thich Nhat Hanh.
Do you make resolutions? Sometimes, like eating oatmeal daily or going to the gym 3 times a week.
Are you one of the few that keep them? Not exactly, but in November we joined the Y and I’ve been 3 times a week except for one week when I went twice and the third day that I wasn’t able to go I walked with weights. Feeling good about it!

  2. I love that quote and I love your blog! I’m so amazed at your journey.
🤔 I think I am able to maintain my focus because it’s very important to me to finish what I start.
Quote. Well, this is my very favorite quote and I say it to myself all the time.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt.
It drives me because I know I can always just do what I can. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
And I love resolutions!!! Haha! I do keep them. I tell the resolution naysayers that even if you don’t keep it, that’s still a little bit of time you were doing something good for yourself that you wouldn’t have done if you didn’t make the resolution lol! Does that make sense?

    • This all makes perfect sense! I was always so all or nothing and it took me a long time to embrace that concept of what you can. I always wanted it all immediately AND perfectly! Thank you for commenting.
