Regina Bartlett

Regina Bartlett is the author of the book Food, Sweat, & Fears about losing 250lbs with RNY Gastric Bypass and a lot of faith going on to live her dream of running the NYC Marathon. She’s a blogger and speaker from the gorgeous Rhode Island coastline where she spends her days with her amazing husband Jeff. They filled their empty nest from their combined family of six adult children with two very tiny, adorable Chihuahuas named Sid Vicious and Starling Estrella Betances.

She was a featured speaker at TEDxNewport in March of 2018, sharing her moving talk: These (Jiggly) Arms -Self Value and Life-Saving Weight Loss to a sold-out crowd in Newport, Rhode Island.

Knowing how difficult weight loss and long-term weight loss success can be, Regina shares her experiences on her blog and Facebook page Navigating Weight Loss. These peer to peer relationships are critical especially when so many people still don’t have a thorough understanding of weight loss surgery.

She’s active in her church, sings on the praise team, and is amazed every single day at how God has totally changed her life. After completing her marathon goal, she went on get certified to teach drum fitness class POUND and POUND Unplugged, as well as earning her Black Belt in Shorin Ryu Karate.

TL;DR: Wife, mother, writer, avid crafter, lover of Jesus and tiny dogs everywhere with a story to tell.

FOOD, SWEAT, & FEARS

Thirty years of failed diets, quick fixes, and disappointment was changed by RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery and a significant change in perspective. Here’s a collection of stories about how one woman went from super morbidly obese to marathon finisher one blessing at a time.

TEDxNewport – March 2018

The absolute
realization
of a  dream

Regina Bartlett always considered her body like it was a punishment. A terrifying experience being stuck underwater in a river as a girl left her fearful, searching for control over her young life. Her fear led to an eating disorder. “I ended up finding this incredible feeling of safety and comfort with food,” she says. At over 400 pounds, Regina lived as Super Morbidly Obese for 30 years.

Regina is an author and speaker who uses her story to help people navigate the river of behavioral and surgical options for medical weight loss. “People have a lot of disparaging things to say about weight loss surgery, but I saw that this could be a lifesaving medical treatment,” says Regina. The first life she saved was her own. In 2016, Regina completed the New York City Marathon in the same body that raised a family and now helps others struggling to reclaim their lives.

Suffering is universal. We all suffer. In our own ways and with own inner demons we battle things that can seemingly destroy us. I think every person on earth has an event in their life - at least one - that they can look back and wonder how they survived it. I had a moment to look again at suffering and the human condition this weekend.I served on a panel at Westerly Library this past weekend with other local authors and a local author who owns a publishing house. This event was for the main benefit of the writing group that meets on Saturday mornings at the library. The group wanted to speak with local authors who published their work and were willing to answer questions about their writing process and the road to publishing. It was an honor to be included with other writers and I learned just as much as I shared. It was a great event. How does this relate to suffering?Ahead of the session the event organizer sent the panelists a list of questions submitted by the writers and asking us to answer one that they'd feature in Facebook posts announcing the event. One question really stood out And I had to answer it:Q: How do you deal with negative self talk? Or the thought that 'I don't need to write that' or 'nobody wants to read about that'?
I discovered this foundation on Facebook and was intrigued. […]

I sat on a panel of entrepreneurs of my high school alma mater a couple of weeks ago as part of their career day. It was nice to be there and see how the school has changed and progressed in the past (nearly) 30 years. The panelists were all running different businesses from a social impact retail store and luxury handbags to a local performance and coffee shop and a brand new distillery. Everyone had something incredible to bring to the table. When I speak with students it's almost like I can see the pressure emanating from their pores! The pressure to do well academically, athletically, socially, and everything in between! We had pressures too but what we didn't have in the late 80s was information coming at us from every corner of the world nestled in the palm our hands! Look like this! Act like that! This will make you feel better!

When people think of health or wellness they tend to think of only physical health. What is your weight? Your cholesterol? Do you walk enough?

Overall wellness goes beyond just the physical metrics of health and if we limit our efforts to improving just that one aspect we often come up short and not understand why.

Taking a look at the 8 Dimensions of Wellness using scripture as a guide will allow you to see your true overall wellness and provide insight on what areas in particular you can improve. We will talk about all 8 dimensions and ways to improve your overall wellness.
