Fear. It’s a small word but has had an enormous grip on my life.
But not all fears are created equally. Some fears are healthy—a kind of caution that helps us navigate real dangers. For instance, we instinctively know to handle a hot stove carefully, dive safely into a pool, or maintain distance from a wild animal. That makes sense. Healthy fear has a protective quality; it’s grounded in reality.
Most of my fears, however, weren’t those rational, healthy fears. They were paralyzing, irrational anxieties that took my breath away. I would often spiral, agonizing over scenarios that existed only in my mind, or maybe in some small way in reality, but were blown out of proportion. Add anxiety to this perfect storm, and it became a cycle of self-destruction.
I started to believe the lies—the insidious lies that creep in, often uninvited. Lies like, “People are mad at me,” “I’m not good enough,” or “I have no value.” These thoughts slowly poisoned my mental well-being, weighed down my spirit, and started to cloud every decision. Looking back, I realize how many fear-based decisions I made over the years. How many of my choices stemmed from insecurity rather than confidence?
But then, by God’s grace, I met Christ. And everything changed. Not overnight, and certainly not without struggle.
As I grew in my faith, I slowly came to understand a profound truth: everything that weighed me down was not mine to carry. Jesus had already borne my burdens on the cross. The lies, the fear, the constant self-doubt—these weren’t my inheritance. This realization brought incredible freedom, a deep healing I wish I’d known much earlier in life.
Over time, as I found wise mentors and incredible women of faith to guide me, I grew even more. Their wisdom, their love, their belief in me and in God’s promises began to restore me. And as I stepped further into women’s ministry, and eventually into speaking, I felt called to share these stories—the stories of women who overcame adversity by clinging to the promises of Christ, both from the Bible and in our own times.
That’s how Well & Grace, my new podcast, was born. It’s a space created for Christian women who seek encouragement and inspiration through stories of faith—stories from the Bible and stories of women today who’ve tasted the living water of Christ and found hope and renewal.
One of the most powerful influences on the podcast was the story of the Woman at the Well in John 4:1-42. This story resonated so deeply with me, and maybe it will with you, too. In the Gospel of John, we learn that this Samaritan woman went to Jacob’s well at high noon, a time of day when most women avoided the oppressive heat. It’s often assumed that she chose that time deliberately, perhaps out of shame, wanting to avoid the judgmental glances and whispered ridicule of others. Fear of judgment. Fear of rejection. I’ve been there, and maybe you have, too.
But then, she met Jesus. In a single encounter at the well, her entire life changed. Jesus offered her the “living water,” which quenches our deepest thirst and heals the wounds we try so hard to hide. If you’re unfamiliar with this story, I encourage you to read it and see for yourself how Christ meets us where we are, no matter what we’ve been through. We each have our “well” moments, our places of shame or pain, yet Jesus is there, ready to transform us if we let Him.
In Well & Grace’s first episode, titled “Fearless Faith: Embracing God’s Promises,” we delve into the transformative power of God’s love that dispels fear. Our guiding verse is 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-control.” For a woman once paralyzed by fear, there could be no better verse to begin with. Just like the woman at the well, I drank deeply from the living water Christ offers, and as Paul reminds Timothy, with the Holy Spirit, we are not bound by fear but empowered by His love.
So I ask you, what fears are you carrying today? What lies are weighing you down? I invite you to take your own journey to the well and experience the freedom that comes from surrendering those fears to Jesus.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, stories, and what fears you may be handing over to Christ. Please share in the comments.
